Recording
NearMirror can save your mirroring session to a file on your computer while mirroring is active.

Setting Up a Recording
In the Recording tab:
- Enter a file path in the Record to file field, including the filename and extension — for example,
/Users/you/Desktop/session.mp4 - Choose a format (see below)
- Start mirroring as usual — recording begins automatically
The file is saved when the session ends.
Formats
| Format | Contains | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 | Video + audio | General use, widest compatibility |
| MKV (Matroska) | Video + audio | Long recordings, flexible container |
| OPUS | Audio only | Voice recordings, small file size |
| FLAC | Audio only (lossless) | High-quality audio archiving |
| WAV | Audio only (uncompressed) | Maximum audio quality |
For most purposes, MP4 is the right choice.
No Playback
When No Playback is enabled, the mirror window does not open — the session runs silently in the background and only the recording file is produced. This is useful for capturing without the distraction of a live window.
No Video Playback / No Audio Playback
These options let you suppress one stream locally while still recording it:
- No Video Playback — the mirror window is blank, but video is saved to the file
- No Audio Playback — no audio plays through your speakers, but audio is saved to the file
Time Limit
Sets a maximum recording duration in seconds. The session stops automatically when the limit is reached. Leave blank for unlimited duration.
Record Orientation
Rotates the saved video independently of the live mirror. For example, you can watch the mirror in portrait while saving the recording in landscape. This does not affect what you see during mirroring.
