Audio Settings
The Audio tab controls whether and how audio is forwarded from your Android device to your desktop.

Audio forwarding requires Android 11 or later. On older devices, audio is silently disabled.
Enable / Disable Audio
The No Audio toggle turns off audio forwarding entirely. When disabled, no audio settings apply and the session runs silently.
Require Audio
When enabled, NearMirror will refuse to start a session if audio cannot be forwarded. This prevents silently starting a session without sound when you expect to hear audio.
Leave this off if you want mirroring to work even when audio is unavailable (for example, on older Android versions).
Audio Source
Choose what audio NearMirror captures from the device:
| Source | What you hear |
|---|---|
| Output | Everything the device plays — music, notifications, app sounds |
| Microphone | The device's microphone input |
Codec
The codec controls how audio is compressed for transmission.
| Codec | Notes |
|---|---|
| AAC | Default. Universal compatibility, good quality |
| OPUS | Lower latency, good for voice and calls |
| FLAC | Lossless, higher bandwidth |
| RAW | Uncompressed PCM, maximum quality |
AAC works in all cases and is recommended unless you have a specific reason to change it.
Bit Rate
Sets the audio quality for compressed codecs (AAC, OPUS). Higher values sound better but use more bandwidth. The default is suitable for most use cases.
Buffering
Adds a small delay to the audio stream to prevent dropouts. Increase this if you hear audio stuttering. For the most in-sync experience, keep buffering low and matched to your video buffer setting.
No Playback
When enabled, audio is not played on your desktop. This is useful when recording — audio is captured to the output file but you don't hear it live through your speakers.
Audio Duplication (Android 13+)
On Android 13 and later, NearMirror can forward audio to your desktop while also continuing to play it on the device. Enable Audio Dup to use this mode.
Without this option, audio is redirected exclusively to your desktop and the device's speakers are silent during the session.
